Cheeseburger in Paradise, Paradise
Cowbells and Cowz
A college friend often repeated what her dad told her numerous times growing up, "Cheap is good; free is better." It really helps to get back to basics like playing in the backyard or with those board games in the closet, but it even goes beyond the basics if you keep your eyes open.
A few weeks ago, we ventured to the Santa Cruz boardwalk for some sight-seeing and a free Blue Oyster Cult concert on the beach. You know Blue Oyster Cult. They sing the "More Cowbell" song. It was great fun. We met up with dear friends for some of the fun. RC and I rode a roller coaster and my friend Kristin and I rode a lose-your-stomach drop ride. We played 18 holes of pirate mini golf and ate at a fantastic Brazilian restaurant. Bateman sort of had his first solids while there. The restaurant was small, so Bateman was in the front carrier while RC was eating. While RC and I were enjoying our scrumptious meal, Bateman's hand entered the yellow corn meal stuff and put it in his mouth and all over his head. Super fun.
uh, yeah. can you see the yellow grains all over him??
A few weeks later, Chick-Fil-A held its annual Cow Appreciation Day. Dress like a cow, get a free meal. So, we did. The real fun part is that the nearest restaurant is 20 miles away, over a toll bridge, inside a shopping mall. Imagine two cow-wannabe parents pushing a cow baby in a stroller in the mall.
Even though we did pay for gas and a toll, free stuff is fun.

Stretch Those Legs!
One day, Bateman looked at me as if he were trying to say, "Mommy, I know you get your exercise when I'm in the stroller, and I do like getting out and seeing all the parks, but let's face it, I am in need of my own exercise." He said all that in a glance, and I knew he was right. So when Richard Carey got home, I asked him to take down the jumpy toy from the top of Bate's closet. Great idea!
